Honest Notes on Staking Yield
Staking rewards are real, but three things the glossy APY never mentions. First, rewards are usually paid in the same coin, so your dollar return depends on the coin's price as much as the yield: 4% more of something that fell 40% is still a loss. Second, staking rewards are taxable income when received at their dollar value that day (see the tax guide). Third, yields that look too good usually are: sustainable staking yield on major networks runs single digits. Anything advertising 20%+ deserves the question "who is paying this, and why?"
