What Is Tensor? The Solana NFT Marketplace, Explained
Tensor is the leading NFT marketplace on Solana. Where OpenSea feels like a shopping site, Tensor feels like a trading terminal: dense tables, live data, collection-wide bids, and a rewards system aimed at active traders. Here is what it is, without the hype. I have no relationship with Tensor. This is education, not an endorsement.
What Tensor Is
Tensor is a marketplace for buying and selling NFTs on the Solana blockchain. It launched in 2022, grew fast during Solana's 2023 recovery, and became the busiest NFT venue on the chain. It bills itself on speed: fast price data, quick execution, and cheap transactions, since Solana fees run a fraction of a cent.
How It Actually Works
- You connect a Solana wallet such as Phantom. Same self-custody model as every honest marketplace: Tensor never holds your NFTs.
- You can buy listed NFTs one at a time, sweep several at once, or place a bid across an entire collection and wait for a seller to hit it.
- Every collection page shows a floor price and a "sell now" price, which is the best live bid. The gap between them tells you how thin the market really is. See floor price and liquidity.
- Tensor runs points, rewards, and its own token (TNSR), which it has used to reward active traders since 2024.
How It Differs From OpenSea
- Chain focus. Tensor is Solana. OpenSea is multi-chain with Ethereum roots.
- Audience. Tensor is built for people who trade NFTs daily. OpenSea is built for people who buy NFTs occasionally.
- Interface. Tensor shows order-book style depth and charts. OpenSea shows pictures and prices.
- Costs. Solana's network fees are pennies, so small trades that would be silly on Ethereum are practical here.
- Incentives. Tensor leans on points and token rewards. That deepens liquidity, but it also means some volume exists to farm rewards, not because anyone wants the NFTs. Read the numbers with that in mind.
Strengths
- Fast, information-dense trading experience with real market depth on top Solana collections.
- Collection-wide bids give sellers instant exits that most marketplaces cannot offer.
- Cheap transactions make experimenting affordable.
Weaknesses
- The interface is intimidating if you have never traded before. It shows you everything at once.
- It is Solana only. Your Ethereum NFTs live elsewhere.
- Reward programs can inflate apparent activity. Volume is not the same thing as genuine demand.
- The Solana NFT market is smaller than Ethereum's. Thin markets cut both ways: cheap to enter, hard to exit.
Who It Is Good For
Active Solana NFT traders, and anyone who already holds Solana NFTs and wants the best live picture of what they are actually worth. Beginners buying a first NFT will have an easier time on OpenSea; my OpenSea review covers it. Either way, the rules from my wallet security page apply in full: real URL, no seed phrases, read every transaction before signing.
The real site: Tensor.
