What Is 1inch? An Honest Review

1inch is a DEX aggregator that grew up on Ethereum: it splits and routes swaps across many AMMs to chase a better fill than any single pool. If Jupiter is that job on Solana, 1inch is the name most EVM users still hear first. I have no sponsorship or affiliate relationship with 1inch.

What It Is

A routing engine plus a website and app. You connect a wallet, pick two tokens, and it proposes a path. Classic mode is an on-chain swap through their router. Fusion mode is a Dutch-auction style intent: resolvers compete to fill you, which can reduce sandwich risk if it works as advertised. There is also a governance token, 1INCH, which you do not need in order to swap.

Strengths

Pathfinding on EVM is the core competency. For mid-size trades across fragmented pools, aggregation is a real, boring improvement.
Wide chain coverage on the EVM side, so you are not learning a new router per L2.
Fusion, when it fills, is a serious attempt at the MEV problem rather than a blog post about it. Still not magic. Keep slippage sane.

Weaknesses and Honest Warnings

The token is a side quest. Staking 1INCH for "governance" or fee discounts is optional complexity. The swap does not require it. Do not buy the token to "use the product."
Router approvals. Unlimited allowances to any aggregator are how old signatures become future drains. Use Permit2 flows when the wallet shows them clearly, and clean up with Revoke.cash.
Fake 1inch sites are a permanent phishing set. Type 1inch.com or use a bookmark. Ads are not a navigation tool.
Thin-junk routes still fill thin junk. An aggregator cannot make a honeypot honest.

Who It Is Good For

EVM users swapping size that would hurt in a single shallow pool. Who can skip it: people whose entire on-chain life is one deep Uniswap pair, and anyone who was about to buy 1INCH because the app existed. Compare with Uniswap itself and, on Solana, Jupiter.
